No Expectations and Valentine's Day

Our first Valentine's Day I made detailed plans for the perfect romantic evening. But J's reactions did not correspond to my narrow-minded agenda at all! Year by year, I have to remind myself: No expectations! Enjoy your amazing husband for who he is! And since then, we have developed our own somewhat odd tradition for Valentine's Day. We usually give each other a gift, and I always dress up and bring him lunch at work...

But by dressing up I don't mean fancy, I mean I come in disguise. One year I was a 60's movie star. Another year, I dyed my hair black and dressed as a punk-- pleated skirt, safety-pins, and all. The next year I didn't go to his workplace, so I made a costume of an warrior-elf character from his favorite computer game. And last year I was Sharp-Shootin' Sue. When J came home, I had a sort of safari/western outfit going on, a huge huntin' knife hanging from my belt, a restaurant sign on the front door, and a menu full of side-splittin' hillbilly terms.

I'm not sure what I'll do for this year. Maybe I'll go ninja-assasin. Going as a 60-year-old who needs her car fixed would be a less obtrusive disguise, though...hmmm. :)
